There's a wee story behind this one.. Apparently one day Daniel Martin Moore (or Direct Metal Mastering to his friends), chums with Iron & Wine, My Morning Jacket and associated types, went in to do a radio session somewhere and in the process became enthralled by the idea of making a gospel album. Somewhere further down the line he decided to make it a mixture of originals and standards, except he'd be trying to perform the standards in the way that his memory has retained them rather than the way they might actually have previously been performed. The result is a warm, inviting and often quite touching country-folk take on the devotional music of America. Probably a bit straight-up 'n' fiddlin' for most people's tastes but there's no question that it's very nicely done.
