This is one of those madly infectious 'n' perky piano-led stomps that sounds like it was purely designed for international radio play. The singer's odd voice coming across a bit like the OMD chappie crossed with the laddo from Mew. I think more than one of them sings in fact. Not surprisingly, they're Danish and they shit perfect pop-nuggets for breakfast over there these days. Not that they eat them afterwards you see. Don't take my words so literally! This single consists of deliriously happy & dreamy perfect-pop that makes you feel weirdly smashed out of your skull. Every chord & harmony within this song has probably been employed in the pop music industry countless times before. But to arrange them all in such a deliriously upbeat & ecstatic manner to create something timeless & joyous that ultimately makes The Beach Boys sound like early Blank Dogs is surely commendable? Compared to the shit this idiotic island ends up with in the "pop charts" these days, 'What Became of You & I' is a bona-fide classic that makes, say, The Wannadies sound suicidal in comparison. Top songwriting indeed boys.
