6/10 Clinton Staff review, 17 December 2010

Its worth mentioning to all today's bands ripping off music from the 1980's that if The Human League at their inception looked so far back, they would have sounded like George Formby. These days they earn a nice little living as a retro act touring every December to those looking to remember where they were when our Phil chatted to that waitress in a cocktail bar. So its quite a surprise then to see a new single by them, and that its on Wall of Sound and with writing and production duties by I Monster. Its not a bad effort, it does somewhat come across like a 'Not the 9 O' Clock News' parody of the early naive Human League with intentionally clunky lyrics and preposterous chorus hook. The nearest comparison is to the silly yet quite brilliant farce of their pre fame near miss 'Empire State Human'. It remains to be seen whether the forthcoming album will be a genuine attempt to re-ignite the past into something new or just something to put on the merch desk next time they hit Wolverhampton City Hall. B side mixes from Cerrone and Mylo add precisely nothing.
