I like a bit of Bardo Pond from time to time.. Particularly Amanita. As you might have gathered, the two tracks here are acoustic versions of songs on their latest self-titled album jobber which sounded pretty good to me from the little bit I heard of it while it was being reviewed the other day. I guess I went into this with a little bit of trepidation as it's probably the smacky walls of shoegazy guitars that define the band's appeal for me, but these two takes show that there's far more to them than just that with 'Just Once' coming off like one of the most pleasingly off-kilter folk songs I've heard in quite a long time with its wonky guitar and harmonica interjections whilst 'Don't Know About You' has got a bit of a 'Kim Gordon or someone singing with Screaming Trees' sort of a feel to it, weirdly, but it's totally soulfully delivered and works an absolute treat. Class in a glass says I.
