Those Various Production types have been a bit quiet recently, eh? I remember the days when something with their name on seemed to come in every other week. I was amazed to discover that one of them was the guitarist in Campag Velocet.. They got a raw deal, those boys. Bloody NME, building 'em up, tearing 'em down etc. etc. Anyway, their version of 'Infinity' is a brooding trip-hop style affair with fleet yet sparse percussion feeling its way around sparingly-used bass throbs and haunting Burial-type atmospherics while the female vocal ramps up the melancholy still further. On the flip Jonquil takes it in quite a different direction, coming off like Jimmy Somerville fronting the bass-driven funkiness of A Certain Ratio under the influence of classic soul or something. I'm much more of a fan of the Various version but Jonquil's thing ain't bad at all in its own way.
