9/10 Ant Staff review, 25 November 2010

Officially approved by the Bob Moog Foundation this one is strictly for the hardcore synth heads and it really is an absolute joy to my ears to hear pure undiluted synthesis, no concept, no agenda to come up with a tune, just pure exploration of the capabilities of this machine. Waveforms, oscillators, envelope, decay, sustain, LFO blah blah blah. If these are words that mean something to you then get on the case with this and enjoy the sounds of one of Moogs earliest synthesizers. Describing the audio on here I feel would be an injustice as this is sound which goes beyond text. I will say though that the chaps involved in creating these synthetic pieces (Hausch-Guschlbauer, Kuhn, Krist) make the most of getting their hands on this treasured piece of kit and fully indulge themselves, and lets be honest who wouldn't given the opportunity. However I don't want to mislead you into thinking the CD runs strictly as a sort of technical document purely of the synthesizers parameters, it is far from that. As each knob is turned with considerable thought, these men create vivid and powerful audio sculptures. This is electronic music at its most potent and mind melting. When you have a synthesizer like this at your hands then you truly can create mesmerizing sounds without the addition of modern post production techniques. Having said that, although this stands alone as an interesting listen for fellow geeks, this could also be an infinitely useful sampling resource for producers out there that can only dream of getting their mitts on this historical piece of equipment.
