I've been giggling with Ant at a photo of this Mr. Hell chap on Discogs. Turns out he's a bit of a dude - half geek, half rocker! His 4 track contribution to this split album is proper dynamite. Lovely deep, cosmic synth-scapery with moody austere undertones swimming beneath the shimmering astral topography. Woozy, gliding, burbling, aquatic sounds from a deep musical coral reef. If you don't know what that means, worry not 'cos I don't either. It's mere thoughts & words. The music here is the real deal. Especially this blazing Rene Hell side! I'm thoroughly taken with the vibe. Both faintly sinister & intoxicating, I almost feel like i've been taken by the hand and led somewhere really magical & forbidden. 'Violin Petal' is essential listening. Not to be defeated, Three Legged Race (a chaplet called Robert Beaty, no relation to Warren I expect) takes a more spacious, tentative route. His side initially reminds me of the ponderous, hazy dream-house that Cluster & mainman Roedelius often inhabited with extra mischievous (and random) analogue bloopery coming to stay over later on and in turn, gradually making quite a pissed-up mess. It's a challenging listen is the epic closer 'III' but stick with it as there's many mirthsome chattering android sounds & effects that creep into the mix. Definitely less relaxing and more challenging, in turn a most interesting listen. I really love Rene Hell's side so much - sounds much more nutritious than the album he produced for Type. Great artwork too! Limited to 400, don't dither with this bugger!!
