- The Donor by Mob Rules
9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 12 November 2010
'The Donor' is a harsh muthafucker! 11 songs of dirgy Ginn worshipping noise that takes the fundamentals of hardcore and metal and bends them into agreeable new shapes. Mob Rules consists of a bunch of good lads from around the Leeds / Bradford area who have done their time in a number of quality acts (Broken Access, Birds Of Prey, Tigers!, The Mock Heroic) before settling into a mob mentality, as it were. Mob Rules don't fuck about! 'The Donor' packs the brutal shit for sure. It's a careful balance of 'My War' era Black Flag, Unsane, Man Is The Bastard, Black Sabbath and Gore all executed with meticulous attention to detail. The rhythm section are super solid, the guitars are wildly experimental whilst maintaining a 'Ginn' like consistency throughout and the vocals are just totally badass, all rabid snarls and barks. Part sleazy slow-core, part classic metallic hardcore, Mob Rules do an exceptional job of balancing these influences into something totally reliable and uncompromising. They very rarely make them like this anymore... that or I'm running in the wrong circles.
