Now this is a curio. Chris Watson "remixing" the usually turgid Manchester legends Doves. There's not really a great deal of Doves on here apart from some nice guitar towards the end and Jimi's dour moan occasionally, briefly interjecting the stunning wall of organic field recordings that Watson unleashes into the mix. I don't know how this is psyche-folk though. If the sound of nature, magnified ...

If the sound of nature, magnified & twittering dementedly around your head before crawling into your mouth and making a big fluffy bed out of your tongue is psychedelic then this is indeed the pinnacle of that movement. I think this is brilliant, if only in the way it showcases Watson's mesmerising skills at capturing the sound of a teeming forest, up a mountain somewhere so dynamically.......fuck Doves, this will just make them cool again. They're too old & ugly for that ;0]
The Sam Amidon track on the flip is fucking gorgeous too. Folk to be cuddled like a favourite blanket or warm girlfriend with sweet strings and a lullaby-like voice somewhere between Jose G & Bill C. His album was a treat & so is this gem. Still not sure how psychedelic it is, just lovely! Fuck Sleepy Sun too, they bore the shit out of me and sorry, I've forgotten what the brief skit from Pete Greenwood was like already. So as a primer for the forthcoming Rough Trade Psych Folk round up this is half brilliant. Let's hope the full set is too.....
