I'm personally loving the latest wave of Synth pop. Why it is now Synth Wave? I dunno? I think that's to signify the more studious end of the game. La Roux has a lot to answer for. She says synth pop is dead. Maybe she killed it, hid it down her pants & then coyly pointed the finger at someone else? The cheeky little twat-haired imp. Tsk indeed! Much seriosity here then. Icy sculptures imposing themselves on your ears, just to melt into delicious streams as they glance your cochlia. The standout tracks here are 1/ The brilliant, brooding Fever Ray cover of Nick Cave's 'Stranger than Kindness' which got Brett wet, 2/ The dystopian fuzz of openers Ye Olde Maids 3/The blissed Kraftwerkisms of the Blank Dogs track 5/ 2VM's post-Adult. robotic seduction....oh fuck. I've just realised this CD is probably gonna be simply amazing all the way through. Not sure about the inclusion of Crystal Castles who went totally Ibiza on their last album but here offer up the passable 'Empathy'. The rest has me salivating like crazy - even the doomy, goth-tinged bits have me punching the air like a dystopia-fuelled loon. Just brilliant. Buy it, you dogs....
