8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 04 November 2010

Former Ghosts return with a second selection of tracks on the insanely reliable upset The Rhythm label. Primarily the work of Freddy Rupert (formally of This Song Is A Mess But So Am I) Former Ghosts boast super group status due to production and vocal contributions from Zola Jesus's Nika Rosa and Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart. Both artist contribute fantastic vocals to this selection of ice-cool electro gothic cuts. Former Ghosts is very much in keeping with both Zola Jesus and Xiu Xiu though the lasting influence of synth-pop pioneers like OMD, Japan and Soft Cell are also good reference points. The programming and overall tone of the production is fantastic, creating the appropriate atmosphere for tales of isolation and misery. There's always a sense of high drama to this sort of material so prepare yourself as this is a heartfelt selection of night beats suitable for messy break-up's, late night contemplation and lonely nights on the dancefloor. Well Breakfast Club.
