9/10 Brian Staff review, 18 November 2010
Samsun is the nom-de-plume of a Floridian guy called Justin who has constructed a wildly spangled & kaleidoscopic disco odyssey here. 'Samo Milagro' does indeed share parallels with both Four Tet's dreamier elements & the more ambient & cosmic side of this much-loved woozy chill-wave shit. Mount Kimbie have been mentioned amongst the bandied-about names, names that litter your mind, these trendy day-glo word bastards that stick to the floor of your very consciousness like abandoned gig flyers. I'm really enjoying this CD, mainly because it's really quite euphoric & rhythmical in places & when it's not rocking the foundations of some forgotten 80s utopia it goes totally shimmering, magical and astral like Tim Hecker. I can't think of much else to say as for some reason I'm tired as a dog after seeing God-Fearing Maine sad-heads Low live last night (they were incredible, thanks fo' asking... But I think they stole something from me, blooming Mormons). This CD is fucking lush, demands to be played really loud whilst you install hammocks, palm trees & small cocktail cabinets around your living space. I couldn't imagine anything better than this to stave off the winter blues.
