Klima is French born, London based Angèle David-Guillou,and this, her second album comes on the magnificent Second Language label. As usual its incredibly packaged, the whole thing seems to be screen printed, folds out beautifully and comes with a free thing that is basically a circular piece of card with thread at either side, you spin it around and it makes a cartoon. They have a name I'm told. The music? Ah well its beautifully restrained singer songwriter stuff, a very chamber music feel throughout with excellent strings and assorted instruments some of which have been played by various Piano Magics and Phelan Sheppards. It has a very intimate feel, as if she is whispering in your ear - her voice is as smooth as silk and her melodies are lovingly crafted. Highlights include the opening Piano Magic penned 'French Mittens' and the gorgeous 'Father' which is just beautifully recorded piano and vocals. The track although brilliant is frustratingly short, but this is the feel of the album overall, snapshots and vignettes that stay long enough for you to be craving for more. At times it recalls Bat For Lashes, but mostly its out on its own, it has a bookish air, very gallic - a work of a very singular vision. Very highly recommended.
