A remix 12" from 'Official Clint Album of the Year 2009' winners Wild Beasts. I had high hopes for this as the lead mix is by Canadian glacial misery guts the Junior Boys. Their version is a ploddy disco-fied thing that wanders along without really going anywhere - you can neither dance to it nor get emotionally involved until the last minute or so when finally they bring out some of the guitar atmospherics they sneak into their own recordings. The B-side is by Jon Hopkins who similarly goes for the 4/4 disco feel. The chilling atmospheres of the 'Two Dancers' album are utilised to good effect with guitars and vocals coming in half way through. A really nice guitar treatment here, giving an oriental feel as the thing builds up with finesse. Impressive. Norman Records fave Oneohtrix Point Never reduces it to a 70's Tomorrows World ident with the vocals sitting atop barely touched. Son Lux take on 'This Is Our Lot', again leaving the vocals as they are and adding in quelchy synths and scary strings. Overall its a mixed bag, I'm not sure what the thought is behind aiming such an obviously introspective guitar band at the discotheque but other than the Jon Hopkins mix (which is done with real panache) the others don't really take the songs in the new and exciting directions you'd hope. A nice annexe though to the album & it comes with free MP3s.
