9/10 Brett Staff review, 14 October 2010

When this thing came in the office we all immediately stopped what we were doing to flick through, admire and debate buying it.. It's the follow-up to a long sold-out collection of 100 homemade record sleeves from 2004 and the compilers have obviously been tirelessly beavering away around record fairs and bargain bins to follow-up on that success as this new edition features more than twice as many! You get a DIY sleeve per page, some clearly done, with various degrees of love and labour, from scratch and some done by doctoring either the sleeve for which the record was intended or a different sleeve entirely.. Expect wonky writing (don't you hate it when you start off doing some nice big letters only to have to make them embarrassingly smaller as you run out of space?), scribbled out faces, rough collage (much of which would work a treat on many of yer modern hypnogogic records), outright brutal mutilation and the fair amount of genuine artistic genius. Personal favourites from a brief flick include a beautiful Demis Roussos cover made of various bird pictures, someone cutting the words 'U2 BEST OF' out of something clearly unrelated/ innapropriate then a completely amazing hand-drawn picture of Carl Douglas with really small hands. Oh yeah!
