I'm totally gonna play to Norman Records type here and begin by saying that this record comes in the most heavy duty sleeve I can remember seeing in all my days. And then I'll reveal that Phil's been playing to John Peel type by playing the entire first side of it at the wrong speed just now. OK so now I'll get to the stuff that's actually important. Noisy type Marcia Bassett you might know from such projects as Zaimph and Double Leopards, while cellist Helena Espvall came to prominence in Espers and has since done a tidy pair of LPs with Masaki Batoh of Ghost. Together they've created a cracking long-player full of ridiculously eerie atmospherics built on subtle drones and ghostly figures, complemented by melancholic string work, all of which bubbles ominously away while occasionally building in intensity to create an effect reminiscent of when someone starts going mental in a film and the camera starts spinning around and the music goes all Bernard Hermann and shit. A constantly engaging record of super high quality.
