Just had a box land with some major releases including some titles on Important Records, The Eleh LP's sold out on pre-order but we do have some stock of this record and it's sounding totally mystical from the moment the needle hits the grooves. 'Levitation' is a powerful opener, a deeply meditative piece that recalls Catherine Christer Hennix's Electric Harpsichord. If you fancy a spot of levitating at home I'm fairly sure this would be a suitable soundtrack. The string ensemble features Ellen Fullman on long string instrument and Theresa Wong on Cello. The Norman Conquest plays acoustic guitar, vocals, moog pedals and also recorded and mixed the album. The Barn Owl guys (Evan Caminiti and Jon Porras) use electric and acoustic guitars, vocals, bells, gong and dulcimer. 'Light' has big shifting plates of metallic sound reverberate, tweak the volume up a nudge for this one. I'm trying to visualize the long string instrument, which is Fullman's own creation and tuned in just intonation. The deep extended ragas of Foghorns are fantastic and the vocals really add an extra dimension. 'Condensation' is Barn Owl working in their more conventional mode, unleashing gorgeous devotional drones capable of making a grown man cry. Highly recommended so grab one of these while you can.
9/10 Ant Customer review, 14th January 2011Hello to the Norman Conquest >>> Apologies for not crediting you in the review. I was getting a little tranced out by the audio and had seen your name as the recording and mixing credits but glancing over the sleeve while listening and writing I missed the notes about your playing on the LP. Please accept my apologies for that. I have amended my review on the item page. Really LOVE the record!
