Hyperdub are branching out from their dubstep roots. I tell you what - give it a year and they'll sign a guitar band. Their great hope will have been the Darkstar album which was far too polite and safe to these ears but maybe that was the point. Much more edgy is the debut album from East London grime producer Terror Danjah. The opening track featuring Dream Mclean is a paranoid blast with vocals out on the edge. Kind of like being chased through a grimey street by a man with a knife. The album is a schizophrenic mix of sounds, none which particularly appeal to thee ears. Some tracks are instrumental with clever production but lacking in melody or atmosphere, others have vocalists drafted in to go crazy on the mic. It just seems like very well done computer music. Who am I kidding? This is not aimed at me. I'm a 38 year old man whose favourite posession is his slippers, I came to the conclusion yesterday that I really like Coldplay. This music makes me feel old and frightened, I'm sure its very good. Please read the press release for further information.
