If you went out with Mr Oldham, he would probably treat you to a night of maudlin sincerity, cajun chicken and maybe regale you with whimsical tales of Americana. If you didnt know already (as I didnt) this is the brother of folk meister Will Oldham, and he has enough meloncholy in his bones to make a grown man cry. Well if you don't cry you may well feel wistful...or maybe reflective as Ned takes you on a tuneful, gently plucked acoustic guitar type road trip, with subtle reverb and softly sung lyrics. It reminds me of Neil young, but with less nasal congestion. Its a good collection of songs and its greatness comes from its gentle majesty. A pretty strong offering from the Oldham clan.
