I was looking forward to hearing this EP from Spectrals as I quite like his schtick. You know the whole downbeat despondent thing sits well with me as does jangly guitar music. It reminds me of The Smiths but with a mersey beat backing band. It's a bit like the end of summer is this record. It makes you want to bask in autumnal glory. It reminds me of holiday towns closed for the summer and loads of other melancholic images. It is a sweet EP though. The musicianship's ace and his voice is so maudlin it actually becomes more endearing the more you listen to it. The guitars jangle, the drums patter and the songwriting quality that comes from this chap is as good as owt I've heard for some time. My favorite song at the moment is "Peppermint" not only because the video is amazing and he looks like he just stepped in from a motion capture session on the Tiger Woods PGA video game, but its simply a great song. Look forward to hearing more from this downbeat gent.
