Of all the recent Olde English Spelling Bee stuff that's passed through the gates of Norman Towers in the past few months Pigeons are the band I've struggled to get to grips with the most. I guess their style verges on folksy territory and I'm not sure about the vocals either but this new 7" is certainly redeeming my clouded memory of their output so far. 'The Paradise' is a drifty spaced out folk pop song that builds it's momentum on a simple drum machine motif, catchy bass line and whole ocean of vocal harmonies that drift and wind their way through the track. It's an enchanting piece and probably my favourite Pigeons tune so far. 'Radio Souvenir' has an equally infectious melodic line but the wild saxophone interruptions are a bit irritation to me. I guess it all depends on how you feel about the sax...I have a love/hate relationship. Saying that, It doe's enhance the tracks mutant Soul/R&B vibe so it serves a functional purpose and will probably sound a lot better to you than i does to me.
