OK, first up...the factual info. Dustin Wong is a genius guitar player from Baltimore who keeps himself busy by playing with ponytail and Ecstatic Sunshine, two absolutely sweet bands. This is his debut solo record and it's a fairly complicated little feller. It's two compositions spread over two discs each beginning in the same way before going on their own separate journeys. It's up to the listener to decide the path (in this case I'm taking the first path as I'm not permitted the time to listen to both discs) that are entitled 'Brother' and 'Sister' which ties into the concept nicely. The album also comes with a DVD of Dustin performing the track live of which a portion can be seen here. Now, I love this guys guitar playing and could happily listen to him forever. There's a bunch of inventive things going on and it's amazing to hear such virtuosity and creative flair in the same sit in. On top of that it's all perform in pretty much real time with only a guitar and a selection of pedals to guide Dustin on his path. Not easy to pin down or compare to anything already out there but imagine a mix of Mark McGuire's solo stuff and Ponytail and you won't be far off the mark. I love the fact that he wrote this after tripping balls on a bunch of mushrooms. Good lad.
