The big time is surely just around the corner for Louis and his ruffian street gang he calls Spectrals. Everyone will know by now that I'm pretty keen on these lads. They've got a canny ability to invoke the spirit of Spector and I'm sure they'll be the first to get in touch once they let him out of prison and convince him to stop shooting other people. 'Peppermint' is another classic slice of 60's style doo-wop played enthusiastically by L and the boys. It's got a totally convincing vocal melody with some sweet guitar tones and an improved analogue recording style that makes them sound more motown and less bedroom amateurs. It's also worth noting that it's delivered at break neck speed...well, in Spectrals terms anyway. It's their most upbeat dance moment so far. 'Put Your Crystal Ball away' brings back the slow and soulful tempo and drifts effortlessly from the soundsystem like a summer breeze. Hilarious lyrics too. Another winner.
