You may recall that we had a great Woods live LP in recently that was originally broadcast on WFMU radio, well now we have a second installation courtesy of Ducktails. Here Matt Mondanile teams up with fellow Real Estate member Martin Courtney to perform six tracks from various LP's and singles he's had a hand in with both his folksy stuff and his trippy electronic bits getting a airing. With Ducktails out on tour at the moment it comes as no suprise to see this appear on my desk and gives us Brits a nice insight into what to expect when he hits our shores next week. I heard he's got Spectrals playing as his backing band, so that's certainly something to get excited about, but it'll also be pleasing to hear how his album material works in the live arena! This LP certainly further enhances the anticipation for the up-and-coming Leeds show. Everything sounds great here; the blissed out Crazy Horse jams of 'Backyard', the mutant carousel of 'Beach Point Pleasant', the super-stoned madness of 'Surf's Up' (the highlight for me) and the excellent rendition of Real Estate's 'Let's Rock The Beach' and it's all performed in the ultra laid back style you'd expect which makes for essential lazy day listening. Oh, the recordings sound amazing too. It's a winner basically.
