9/10 Brian Staff review, 09 September 2010

Not heard these properly before and i'm now so bloody pleased I have. Not often do bands have a totally effortless way with a tune like this. Apparently they're from Manchester (mates with the similarly minded Spectrals from Leeds) and they've basically stapled a load of classic influences onto the bare bones of a Kinks/Big Star-esque summer groover to make this chiming lo-fi beauty that just slinks & lollops along like a stoned baby tiger dragging a massive furry psychedelic tail behind it. 'Cenetaph' really is a sort of mutant blissed 60's garage anthem wrapped up in a delicious early 70s slacker haze, then spiced up with some 80s/90s US underground sludge - very pan-generational! It certainly sounds like they could happily play out all day with all the equally shambly & spangled U.S. posse (the Woodsist gang etc) but they're sporting some bizarre English T.V. Personalities trousers that their mum has insisted they wear so they keep on getting laughed at (in an affectionate way) The flip (a tribute to everyone's fave Aussie's?) is a bit pacier but just as totally magic, recalling a spirited, muffled cross between early Superchunk & The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I rarely take indie 7"s home these days but this one has utterly captured my heart. x
