8/10 Phil Staff review, 30 September 2010

I've not heard of these guys before. I'm trying really hard to not start reviews off with some crass gag about a bands name. I need to get out of that habit. So here I am... a couple of sentences in and I've done it. These guys craft decent little tunes and they're all dressed up interesting worldy rhythms. There's a hefty Brazillian influence in there as the percussion is very busy indeed. Fans of Beirut will enjoy the busyness and general feel of this but as this is the bass player from said band that could probably explain that one. Is it a mandolin that I can hear?? It's some sort of small strummy thing which is where the Beirut similiarities lie. Otherwise it's way more upbeat and uplifting than them. The songs sound really well crafted and the arrangements are really interesting. The songs are all over the place yet smothered in pop sensibilities. I think I like it!
