The new wave of psychedelic American music continues with another release on the ever prolific Woodsist. Don't think you are getting an easy ride with this one though, the influences are from the darker, more strung-out likes of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground and Thirteenth Floor Elevators. I hear bits and bats of Karl Precoda-era Dream Syndicate aswell as the lo-fi likes of the wonderful wave of New Zealand garage bands who emerged from the late 80's/early 90's - usually on the Flying Nun or Expressway roster - the likes of Double Happy's, The 3D's, Plagal Grind. The sound is dark and churning with 60's style psych overtones. King Missile has been mentioned, the whole thing has a fog over it that gives it a mystery - it does seem to have been recorded on a desk containing genuine '60's dust. Recommended.
