Ed DMX. One of the Godfathers of British Electro (maybe THE Don!), this chap is always a total pleasure to listen to (he's also without a doubt one of the most versatile & exciting DJs i've ever danced to!) The Breakin' records boss has taken all the routes you could imagine, ranging from unabashed pop brilliance to tough party bangers & darker, stripped back European or Detroit styled stuff but unlike jack-of-all-trades Vibert, Ed's vision is more consistent & engaging for me. This is a top value bumper crop over two discs. Business Lady is well hacked off she can't access more of these tunes on vinyl as she's a party monster & Mr. DMX makes her proper kick off her stilettos on the dancefloor. So for yer money you get ridiculously chirpy acid-funkers, giddy pooting braindance, classic melodic electro pop, drowsy, reflective downtempo numbers, evocative Carpenter-esque soundtrack-like gear & the kind of juddering, vocodered brilliance you'd expect from guys such as Dam Funk. It's a varied, yet seamless collection that doesn't leave a corner of the electro world unexplored, no corner is left undusted. Quite simply you have a catch-all compendium of some of the best quality British electronic music you could hope to enjoy right now. It's got the Rephlex stamp of quality & innovation on all over it. Lovely, lush tunes!
