8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 19 August 2010
Looking Glass is the work of My Sad Captain main man Jim Wallis. This is a self-released effort prompted by support from Marc Riley who seems to have a soft spot for the band. Can't really think of any wordy anecdotes that might help describe such humble sounding indie pop as it's all far too earnest, well played and serious for all that. Wallis's voice is warm and breathy and occasionally reminds me of the Adams brothers (Hood). The music itself is stripped back acoustic indie pop stuff with elements of folk, country and Americana all muddled up inside... You know the style. This is done amazingly well and Wallis' songwriting is deeply effective without getting into cheesy territory. Warm, atmospheric and beautiful stuff.
