6/10 Dave Staff review, 02 September 2010
The latest "phat cutz" from the DJ Kicks series is the usual varied collection of electro stomp and techno squelch. It combines silky synths and complex yet catchy drum patterns with an almost luxurious bass line. There is enough variation to skin a cat, if that's your kind of thing. This thing goes all over the place. You would think that such an errant collection of sounds might sound a bit bab, but under the watchful eye of Kode 9 is doesn't sound like a massive audio mess. There really is a lot going on on with the Martyn mix. From Chicago house to Soweto type tinpot drum clatter - it's all good. The flip side (mixed by Actress) retains the same level of quality. Its a veritable banquet of dubstep goodness served with the biggest goblet of dance wine. An instant classic?? Maybe...
