- The Metallic Year by Imbogodom

Because I enjoy the artwork of Mr. Alexander Tucker it has now become my responsibility (within the social network of Norman records that is..) to review his entire recorded output. Though I tend to enjoy his illustration work more than the music he produces it's all of a high quality and is always a pleasure to hear. On 'The Metallic Year' Tucker has teamed up with Daniel Behan, a New Zealand resident with a taste for reel-to-reel tape machines and old school technologies. This collaboration seems to have come about from a mutual love of nocturnal recording habits, free form improv and all that old recording equipment that is lying around at the BBC. Citing The Radiophonic Workshop, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Alastair Galbraith as inspirations for this LP gives you an idea of what to expect; and that's a purest improv meets sound collage style record. Instrumentation is warped and twisted into all sorts of shapes and forms. Compositions that sound premeditated soon transform into spacious, atmospheric free-for-alls with manipulated vocals and mysterious tones taking centre stage. Suitably eerie and full of mystery, this LP is worth further exploration and is Mr. Tucker's most adventurous musical statement to date. Should also mention the outstanding artwork and the free MP3 download code. PEACE!
