Not sure what to tell you about this guy as I've never really heard his stuff before. Not sure what to tell you about this guy as I've never really heard his stuff before. On first listen it sounds like Tom Waits style Americana music that absorbs a little of the blues, country and folk along the way. The most distinctive thing about it is Mr. Cox's super gruff vocal delivery. From the sound of him you'd think he was some weary travellin' blues man with deeply ingrained lines scaring his bluesman face. But no, this guy looks to have benefited from a private school education and appears to be no older than 20, tops. I'm generalising but you get the idea, this guy sounds very different to how he looks. I wonder what he'll sound like when he's Tom Waits age? I wonder what he'll look like? Something to keep in mind I guess. This s/t debut is a confidently delivered LP full of (already) classic sounding tunes about bad things happening to you and drinking and all that business. Definitely of interest to you Tom Waits, Scott Walker (and the like) lovin' types. Enjoyable stuff.
