9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 01 July 2010

Nice 7" this. Not come across anything on Kraak before but if this is what they are into then they're good lads in my book. The Alien Radio and Ducktails tracks are exclusives and are certainly worth a listen but it's the Kohn and Peaking Lights tracks that deliver the surprises (more on them in a minute). So the Alien Radio tune is a total mutant Radiophonic Workshop style effort with some crazy clangers style tones. The Ducktails contribution is kinda straight up indie pop by comparison to previous solo efforts but it's pitched really weirdly and has an otherworldly feel you'd expect from Mr. Mondanile. Now, the Kohn tune ploughs a similar terrain as Alien Radio but they do a way better job of capturing the classic space synth atmosphere. A total belter! Finally we got Peaking Lights who come of sounding like a mix of Forest Swords and Zola Jesus and craft a fine post-punk style tune, steeped in reverb and lo-fi hiss. Aceness! Comes in a handsome screenprinted sleeve featuring Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge of Star Trek - Next Generation. Yo!
