- Diamond Daze by Pantha du Prince

OK, so we've got the re-issued debut from Pantha Du Prince aka Hendrik Weber who, back in the day was known as 'Glühen4' or sometimes 'Panthel'. I've not heard any of his former groups or projects and I've somehow managed to not encounter much of the latter Pantha Du Prince stuff which is something I need to sort out. For me, this is like hearing Weber for the first time so it's nice that I get to review his debut outing. Well, what can I say about it that you probably don't already know? Pantha Du Prince's sound is both diamond hard and dreamily soft around the edges. The beats here are crisp and crystal clear with cryptic melodic phrases and ever shifting tones combining to make excellent music for maybe dancing to but primarily sitting around listening too, meaty chong on hand etc. In parts 'Diamond Daze' possesses that tasteful Japanese glitchy vibe yet the majority of it has more in common with the naturalist techno sound that Keiran hebden seems to be exploring nowadays. It also sounds like the blueprint for a lot of the dreamy dance pop we've been hearing so much of lately. This is obviously an accomplished debut and will no doubt go down great with anyone who missed it first time around. Shit the bed awesome! Let's give it a 5.
