8/10 Brett Staff review, 24 June 2010
Beggin' Your Pardon Miss Joan feature a member of Guanaco (whose LP earlier this year was super tidy) and their Blackest Rainbow debut collects tracks released on such esteemed imprints as Centre of the Wood, Dead Pilot and Reverb Worship. There are times where you could definitely guess that this is somehow related to Guanaco but for the most part this project has a more traditionally folky feel with little hints of drone here and there. Even the vocals sound a little droney in themselves, with many a drawn-out In that sense it reminds me quite a bit of some of the earlier, 4-track Six Organs of Admittance stuff and since I rate that stuff incredibly highly it should be taken as a big compliment that this doesn't suffer in the least from the comparison!
