- Riser by Fieldhead
8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 29 July 2010
Fieldhead is the work of Mr P. Elam who is a former Leeds resident now residing in Vancouver, Canada. You may be aware that Elam plays a significant role in both The Declining Winter and Glissando's Fleeting Glimpse Ensemble as well as producing experimental recordings much like the one I'm listening to now. Elam digs minimalism and has chosen to work his new compositions around six female vocal recordings augmenting with tape hiss, synthesiser manipulation an ambient effects. Contributions come courtesy of Anna-Lynne Williams (of Trespassers William), Chantal Acda (of Sleepingdog), Anneke Kampman (of Conquering Animal Sound), Elly May Irving (of Glissando) and Esker (of The Boats and The Sea) and are all re-shaped with respectful appreciation of the source material. This makes for a warm listening experience that I would recommend to fans of the Home Assembly Music label, Grouper, Hood, Hood affiliated bands and all them types like Peter Broderick and that. Probably worth mentioning the included TWODUCKDISCO screen print...it's tasty alright.
