It's rare for Mexican Summer to put out something dodge so it's unlikely that this No Joy single is gonna disappoint. On first listen I'm getting an early Sub-Pop meets 4AD, meets American style shoegaze vibe that's not dissimilar to mid-era Sonic Youth, with bits of Swervedriver thrown in for good measure. It drifts in all casual like, before kicking off in a frenzy of shredding and feedback. It sounds like a hit circa 1990! Nice. B-side 'No Summer' is equally as satisfying in it's space grunge delivery. It's all guitar dirge and baggy style beats counter balanced with light melodic touches and whispered vocals. It's a got feedback ending too... haven't heard one of those in a while. Real nice stuff.
