9/10 Li'l Biz 18 June 2010

Tasty slice of wax here from cosmic cosmonauts Psychic Ills out now on The Social Registry. It comes on randomly colored vinyl (in this case it's a speckled metallic blue-ish...ohhh) complete with a hand screened sleeve. It's a beauty i tell thee. Musically these folks sit somewhere between abstract guitar interplay and full on psychedelic guitar rock but they've got a real ear for a tune too and they ain't afraid to introduce a little synth or a solid drum beat if that's what it takes to get the job done. Fair play i say. I'm getting a spooky repetitious krautrock vibe from 'Secret Flower' (the best of the tracks i've heard here) and a total overload of eastern flavour on opener 'Transmute', due mostly to it's use of the Djembe drum and sitar licks. Not got time to flip this baby over for the eleven minute saga that is the b-side but i'm quietly confident that it'll be a winner. If only there was more minutes in a hour. I should mention that Jason Meagher of the No-Neck Blues Band had a hand in the production and that this is a fucking great record. ACE!

secret flower is the best track on this record.... not meandering like the other tracks.this is the most engaging one. i think what keeps it together is jimy's synths
