4/10 Brian 24 June 2010

These chaps have long since impressed me with their brutal, catchy moniker. They're a bunch of hyperactive West Yorkshire based characters and their debut full schlong massive lengther is here on Transgressive. The booklet for this self-titled, career-making opus is adorned with all sorts of fascinating day-glo pop art madness by many local artistic talents who've jumped on the PABH bandwagon to showcase their art from a proper hard-truckin', seriously mosh-tastic vantage point. Only problem I have with this recording is the ridiculously generic brand of lowest common denominator riffy indie-metal they employ to entertain the eager masses with. They get full-on stagediving at their gigs and everything. The singer sometimes does that raspy metal screeching to help intensify the (already) bludgeoning frat-party groove and, yes, by the end of the whole thing, it's given me this kind of horrific Kerrang TV headache. I always suspected I'd grow out of the harder end of indie rock after finding bands like McClusky particularly hard work but compared to these over-excited young pretenders, those grizzly Welsh boys were true noise-rock champs. 10/10 for energy, 2/10 for tunes.
