Probably the best of the latterday the Divine Comedy albums, Bang Goes the Knighthood features everything we love about Neil Hannon's music - soaring melodies, beautiful arrangements and a droll lyrical persona. The difference between this and some other the Divine Comedy albums is that it is consistent from start to finish. All killer and an accomplished work from a master craftsman.

......"My Lovely Lovely Horse..riding through the field...where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the wind..." These are probably my favourite lyrics by Neil Hannon. But with the new Divine Comedy album kissing my city earholes I might have to re-asses my ideas. The guy in my opinion is quite a genius and his merry band of musicians are not far behind. This album is full of great songs that mystify and delight at the same time. The subject matter of the songs deviates from longing for the return of a Thatcherite Britain taking in poverty, Morrissey and twee indie kids. All told in a wry original manner. The production's amazing, the songs are funny without being too mawkish - It should sit on the same shelf as Burt Bacherach or some other classic singer songwriter. The CD comes with a bonus live concert CD too and a booklet! There's always a winner and if you buy this the winner is...... YOU!!!
