Remarkable record of 1960’s French electronic library music, of a somewhat experimental bent. Cecil Leuter (whose birth name, implausibly, is Roger Roger) was a busy, ‘proper’ bandleader at the time, but it turns out he had a real knack for crafting wildly unusual electronic miniatures. Pop Electronique is full of them! Reissued on Fifth Dimension.

- Pop Electronique by Cecil Leuter
8/10 Jack 19th December 2015
Cecil Leuter is Roger Roger. Yes Roger's music is hard to come by so this reissue is very welcome. This record is a DJ samplers dream. Some of the songs are just weird electronic sounds and others are a mix of strange moog and reverb sounds mixed with a 60's intrumental garage band sound. He also wrote some interesting material for the theremin. It came out in 1969 and is considered a pioneer recording in the history of electronic music. This wacky early synthesizer music is somewhat an acquired taste.
