6/10 Brett Staff review, 10 June 2010

Hey, remember Ooberman? That's going back a bit, eh? Leeds festival 2000, jumpers for goalposts and all that. Anyway the frontlady and frontman from those unassuming indie types have this new thing which they're calling The Magic Theatre, a name which makes perfect sense in view of their slightly whimsical, music hall sort of air. The press release is talking about folk, West Coast harmonies, Eastern European choirs and all sorts but, for all the scope and widescreen ambition of the thing, at its heart it's really a big, fuck-off pop effort full of teh catchy hookz 'n' choons. As to whether it was worth the £100,000 it apparently cost to make.. Well, I'm staying out of it.
