- Secret Carnaval by Roberto Auser
8/10 Brett Staff review, 30 April 2010
This synth-laden opus seems to stem from the highest of concepts, one based around a mysterious post-apocalyptic landscape laden with the fluorescent trails of once thriving tropical wildlife, now extinct after the apparently lethal combination of a full moon and the bird flu virus. A mythos that's pretty Drexciyan in its mix of fact and fiction! The tunes predominantly take their cue from cosmic Cerrone-style disco, John Carpenter-esque synth figures and pinches of classic techno and electro (with The Martian particularly coming to mind), mixing them up in pretty fine style with plenty of rainforest sound effects to cement the atmosphere. As a double CD it's incredibly ambitious and surprisingly consistent - although inevitably you'll find a few standouts. If you fully buy into his style you'll be delighted to spend a couple of hours being transported to this alien land and if not I'm sure there'll be more than a few tracks which'll tickle your fancy.
