Well Hans Joachim Irmler's version of Faust have announced their last studio record after a 40 year journey of stunning sonic rumblings, industrial tribal rock, warped psychedelia & revolutionary sound-collage. It would have been a shame when the two factions split if the quality of their individual 'Faust' projects faltered but it didn't, we just got a 2-headed behemoth instead, both investigating slightly different paths of sonic possibility whilst keeping the Faust essence strong in throughout their recordings & shows. This final set ties-up the story succinctly and listening to this bruiser of a record i'm convinced they're the eternal geniuses of the German underground. Atmospheric, mind-shattering, propulsive, cerebral & freeform rock played with panache & power./ The last track on side 1 sounds a bit like The Fall on a boatload of acid, and Phil is right - they ARE the German Fall. Uncompromising, stubborn dismantlers of the rock 'n' roll dream, so hell bent on doing precisely the fuck what they want, they become the dream rock 'n' roll band. We have no sound-clips available for this due to the fact each Faust release should be a wonderful surprise and 30 second clips don't do this legendary band any justice in the least. The faithful will just buy it anyway & so should you - as good a place to start as any I reckon! Be interested to see if Jean-Herve & Zappi continue their leg of the race, whatever happens, Faust are forever in my musical world.
