The A-side here is a Royal Trux song but it's not one I've heard before - doing a bit of research it was a non-album single from '93.. So there you go. However it originally sounded, Kevin Barnes' lot have made it into a slow, gentle ballad built on a stuttering drum machine rhythm and accented by quite the array of dayglo synth squelches. It's nicely arranged but it doesn't leave much of an impression I have to say. 'Subtext Read, Nothing New' is one of their own tunes and kind of sounds like Scissor Sisters trying to cover Animal Collective or something. Props for the fact that they seem to have used several albums worth of production budget on just the one single though..
