Original review from... whenever it was.

Ooh these Sonic Pieces booky packages are nice aren't they? They could house a collection of Joe Dolce remixes by DJ Tiesto and still seem ridiculously classy, so the fact that this one houses such beautiful, emotive solo piano playing - featuring several gorgeous extended sonata-type pieces - blasts the sophistometer clean through the fucking roof. At various points his compositions hint at the influence of such figures as Bach, Philip Glass, Keith Jarrett and many more but he never comes close to relying on those influences - his own voice always remains the loudest whether massaging you with gentle yet dramatic cascades or tugging the heartstrings with plaintive, space-filled passages.

The actual sound of the recording is incredible - in the liner notes he describes the piano as the most beautiful he's ever played and the acoustics of the church environment are compliment it wonderfully, with the speedier passages featuring notes which somehow come out clean and true while also resonating in gentle ripples, colliding with each other in a truly wonderful way. I probably had Nils Frahm fans at 'Ooh' but everyone else should investigate for their own selves.
