Well that Icelandic neo-classical chapster has provided the goods once again. I've missed almost all his previous soujourns into stripped-back melancholia, I wasn't quite prepared for this feast of calming dreamscapery, occasional elegant post-rock textures & lashings of lush chamber instrumentation however! He seems to be vastly gifted this lad, I can see mesen backtracking through his former glories and what a pleasure that'll be to hear how he maps out his developing genius. This latest audio sibling has a very grand & accomplished feel which in turn will appease the rabid Richter-ite & yr Yann Tiersen mafia whilst keeping up momentum alongside his fellow, more left-field Bedroom Community boffins. So a fuller, richer sound palette evolves around the graceful core of sombre piano & tear inducing strings, at times more cinematic & glorious than ever before, but still tinged with that life-affirming sadness: this is incredibly rousing, soothing & moving music that very much suits these fraught filled times. Like the eclipse artwork tons as well, a beautiful package all round.
