8/10 Brett Staff review, 09 April 2010
I was a bit gutted that the Lloyd Miller LP came and went before I could get my grubby mitts on it as it sounded pretty ace from what little I heard.. And the evidence of this 12", newly recorded in a trio with The Heliocentrics' Malcolm Catto and Jake Ferguson, is backing that up. The first track comes across like the haunted Japanese forest grove improv of the likes of Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides while the second is a deep piano-led outing taking cues from the third stream while retaining strong bop flavours and inhabiting some sort of middle ground between Dave Brubeck and early Keith Jarrett. Track three almost seems as though it's melding the first two together, a striking collision of East and West, while the fourth and final effort takes things really abstract before beautifully kicking back into a gentle, swinging groove. Get 'em while they're hot..
