Domina by Maurizio

Maurizio were the duo of Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus who released under various names the most well known being Basic Channel. On this 1993 release their long form style of house-inspired dub techno is here augmented by a Carl Craig remix. Classic deep techno  - the 12 minute A side being as immersive as the genre could get.

10/10 PoppaBurt 10th April 2016

There's a long list of magical Maurizio tracks going back over the years, but this EP is top of the pile. The Carl Craig remix and it's switch of gears from luscious synth chords into a spacious thumping, shuffling house cuddle would be enough to headline most releases, but the minimal perfection of the Maurizio mix will not be denied. The most booming 4/4 kick, insistent hi-hat click, and claps presumably made with giant metal hands draw you in as the filtered vocal hook twists and turns. The track doesn't change much, but as it does, you WILL feel the effects. Before you know it, the skanking beat drops out and a dense, superlative techno blaster takes over to show what a filter, echo and bass synth can do to recreate the basement techno dive experience any place, any time. If this isn't in your top 5 techno tracks of the '90s then you've clearly never heard it before.
