American VI: Ain't No Grave by Johnny Cash

There's something strange about albums like 'American VI: Ain't No Grave'. In many ways it is a priviledge and pleasure to hear titans like Johnny Cash exploring their oncomming deaths, as he does so masterfully here, with a particularly spiritual current running through the tracks. But it also means one more of our heroes is gone.

A must have record if you are a Johnny Cash fan. No trademark Johnny Cash deep voice, it is apparent these songs were recorded in his last days. Only one song on the record is written by Johnny Cash, the rest are covers. However, once the Man in Black covers a song, it instantly becomes his. This album is a reflective look back at his life but also a spiritual looking forward for Johnny in his final days on this earth. In my opinion the first two tracks of the album ("Ain't No Grave" and "Redemption Day") are worth the price of the entire album.
